The Maori philosophy towards hauora (wellbeing) is based on holistic health. Te Whare Tapa Wha, a popular Maori holistic health model, represents the four dimensions, or cornerstones, of wellbeing:
Like the four walls of a whare (house), each dimension is equally important in ensuring a person's wellbeing. Should one of the four walls be missing or damaged, a person may become unbalanced and subsequently unwell.
